Melting Missile
The idea
Sibling of the Melting Bomb. Same gesture, another icon: the cartoon rocket, with its four flat fins and porthole.
The golden head melts and leaves the body hollow, like a cage of drips. What should be speed and threat stands still, hanging. The gold makes it feel like a trophy; the matte black, like an industrial object.
Like the Melting Bomb, it is inspired by Jason Freeny and the way he opens up toy icons to see what is inside. Here the inside is not dissected: it is exposed because the surface has melted away.
It is the second piece in a small series about cartoon weapons that give up before doing their job.
